Dozens of players showed up when their teams needed them as the high school football playoffs opened last week.

Some of their dynamic performances helped their teams survive first-round playoff match-ups and advance. Some did what they could in losing efforts.

Nine of them are listed here in the Player of the Week contest coming off the opening round of the postseason.

St. Joseph's Travis Royal and Righetti's Cooper Bagby are two of the nine up for Player of the Week. They're joined by Lompoc's Sheldon Canley Jr., Arroyo Grande's Makai Puga and Max Perrett, Nipomo's Leo Toledo and Gabe Evans, Valley Christian's Josiah Heller and Santa Ynez' Luke Gildred.

Readers can vote at; and Vote totals from each website will be combined to determine the Player of the Week.

The polls will close at 2 p.m. Friday and the winner will be announced before the first-round of the playoff games.
