Cabrillo High's girls golf team has only lost once in Los Padres League play this season and that dominance continued Monday at the Rancho Maria Golf Course with a win over Orcutt Academy.
The Conqs beat the Spartans 265-284 as Cabrillo persists to be the model of LPL consistency. The Conqs have won every league tournament so far this season and have only lost one dual — at Morro Bay on Sept. 28 — as the golfers continue to improve under the tutelage of head coach David Schroeder.
The individual medalist on Monday was Cabrillo's Devan McCune with a low score of 51. Gabi Delgado 52, Brianna Gonzales 52, Ashlyn Wiswall 53 and Aubrey Campfield 57 completed the team score for Cabrillo.
Orcutt's Rochelle McClung led the Spartans with a 53 and her teammates scored: Madi Birch 56, Ashley McClung 58, Sienna Pita 58 and Erika Tuttobene 59.
Orcutt Academy coach Jim McManus is pleased with the development of his young team, while also being impressed of the strong play from the Conqs.
"The progress has been great, especially with our short game," McManus said. "They've really been working to drop scores and the shots around the green. It's a lot of fun to see the girls respond and they've really tackled the challenge of learning this game."
McManus feels Cabrillo's the class of the league.
"They're very strong and easily the best among the league," McManus said. "They're going to be out front toward the end."
Cabrillo and Orcutt travel to Morro Bay on Wednesday for the next league tournament.
Lompoc 258, Nipomo 273
The Braves continued their unbeaten start in Los Padres League dual matches by beating Nipomo on Monday at Monarch Dunes Golf Course.
Lompoc's 258-273 was the team's lowest score of the season and Danielle Morgan (50), Destny Goggins (53) and Marlene Mendez (55) all set personal bests, said head coach Tom Garrard. Kendal Martin and Rylee Sager both shot 50s as well.
Nipomo's Brooke Cuzick won the individual medal with a 42 and her teammates scored: Carah Frank 53, Karlee Magness 59, Chelsea McNeil 59 and Brooke Panzardi 60.
Righetti golfers have fun at tough Whittier course
Four Righetti High golfers took on the challenge of the California Country Club in Whittier for a challenging but fun experience, said head coach Brian Tomooka.
The par-74 tournament hosted by Walnut High featured top teams from Southern California. Righetti's team finish was unavailable but Sarah Fouratt led the team with a low score of 78.
Her score placed her 11th out of 106 golfers.
Delaney Nolan shot a 106, Hailee Silva 112 and Olivia Lydick 128.
