The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department and the Mayor's Task Force on Youth Safety are putting on several teen 'pop up' events over the next few weeks. At Tuesday's 'Baseball Skills Challenge' at Minami Community Park in Santa Maria participants swung for the fences and showed off their arms while following social distancing and mask wearing requirements.
On Thursday, the department will host another baseball challenge at Grogen Park at 1155 West Rancho Verde in Santa Maria.
On Tuesday and Thursday of next week the theme will change to 'Appetizers and Art' where attendees will be encouraged to "let taste inspire your creativity, and express it through art."
Tuesday's event will be held at Rotary Centennial Park at 2625 South College Drive, and Thursday's will be held at Tunnel Park at 1100 North Palisade Dr in Santa Maria.
All events are free for teens in 7th through 12th grades and run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Snacks are provided at the event.
