Critter Corner: A very happy new year to all, and a welcome to 2018. Our birds are in a frenzy, gobbling up the last of the holiday treats. Seems like they know it will soon end, and they will be back to the same old every day stuff. No more special stuff until maybe Valentine's Day. What they don't know is that we have more of a supply than they think, so we will watch to see how happy they are for a few more weeks anyway. We found a few specials so they have more than they know right now. By the way, those of you who asked, Little Mama is back. Guess she went to visit friends or relatives for some of the holidays, but she is back that makes us very happy. We aren't worried anymore about what might have happened to her.
Holiday lights in Nipomo: We are sorry about those of you that went to Apricot Lane a few days ago to see the lights and found they were down or being taken down. In the future we will get information from the people or area about when they will go up and when they will come down so people and especially children will not be disappointed. We do want all the little ones to see the lights and enjoy them. This will be a must on our next year's list. All we can do at this time is say we are sorry.
Thomas fire toy drive - give Christmas or holiday happenings to families who have lost everything: VIVID Financial Management, located at 340 E. Clark Ave. in Orcutt, is accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Jan. 12. You can donate online at gofundme.com/TFToyDrive. Remember, they are accepting new (unwrapped) gifts or money donations to provide for the families and schools in need. As I previously told you, the Nipomo Lions have collected and sent a substantial amount to those in need. Glad to see others are also following through. This time of the year it is even harder on them.
Screenings to stay stroke free will be taking place in Santa Maria at Hesperian Masonic Lodge 264 on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Those of you with any questions regarding this procedure, or seeking information please call 1-800-364-0457. Also to pre-register for this procedure call 1-800-364-0457. These screenings are great and very reasonable. They saved a couple of my friends who had problems who did not even know they had an issue, so they are a good thing.
