Critter Corner: Our birds seem to be very busy, and the quail even busier. They are too cute for words, because they seem to have stayed here all winter. Seems like they're saying “Well, we are here now all the time, and you have to take care of us, and feed us, the good stuff all the time.” But we love them and enjoy them very much so we will let them push us around and we will keep them happy. Little Mama ad Little Miss are still around and they are regular visitors, though they sometimes bring friends. But they must tell them that they have to be good and respectful, and sometimes they do not come back. That is OK with us, as we like those that respect the property and are nice, like Little Mama and Little Miss. They do not make a mess and do not dig up anything, just eat their treats, mostly grapes, and some doggie or cat kibbles, and not much of that. We do not want them dependent on us for all their food. We are only treats, and a fun place for them to play with their young, which are always fun to watch.

Nipomo Senior Center: Dues are due now. The cut off date is March 1, so hurry up and get yours in if you have not already done so. Tuesday is Bunco Day at 11 a.m. It is fun and easy to learn, and there are many to assist if you need help. A potluck will take place on Feb. 21, and to celebrate Valentine's Day, please wear red. Bring something to share, as well as plates and silver. They are ready for fun. They are in need of Bunco players. If you know someone please ask them to join. Many will help you if you do not know how to play. Come on down and join in and have a great time.

Nipomo Newcomers Club: If you missed the Sunday Champagne Brunch, you missed a good one. Guess you will have to wait for the next one. Do not pass it up as they are excellent and fun with all our club members. They have many things to do and I am sure you will find something that you will enjoy. They are a bunch of wonderful and enjoyable people. Contact Barbara Ward at 773-3352. She can give you all the information on how to join. They are also looking for substitute Bunco players and Yahtzee players. Give them a call.

Blacklake Gyro Club is off and running again to the races at Santa Anita in March. They will be enjoying lunch and races there on March 23. It is always a fun time and lots of camaraderie. We have always enjoyed going and will be doing so again this year. I'll keep you posted and let you know what is going on and what went on there.

Nipomo Lions Club: Do remember that the speaker contest will be taking place on Feb. 13 at the Blacklake Community Center. There will be three youths participating and maybe an additional two. This is a great stepping stone for our youth and Lions are always there to help our youth, inspire them and assist them however they can.

The Cal Poly Rodeo Team hosted as special needs rodeo along with their coach Ben Londo. The Little Raiders equine therapy children enjoyed riding horses, dummy calf roping, stick horse races the Cal Poly University police dog demonstrations and even a trail mix station. Each child received a bag filled with rodeo items including a rope, hat and Cal Poly T-shirt. What a wonderful thing for these young ones to be able to participate in.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY: To everyone out there, do not forget your loved ones, and especially the children. Hope you all have a great day and your loved ones have a great day too.

SORRY I was not able to get a column to you last week. My sister was very ill and I spent most of the week in the ICU at Marion Regional Medical Center with her. She is now on the road to recovery so things are looking up. Thanks to all of you who inquired as to why I did not submit a column. It is always nice to know you missed me. And I will always keep you informed as to what is going on.
