The Valley Reads Book Club will discuss "Maya’s Notebook," by Isabel Allende, on July 24 in Shepard Hall at the Santa Maria Public Library.
The meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and complimentary snacks and coffee will be served.
"Maya’s Notebook" tells the story of 19-year-old Maya Vidal. After the death of her beloved grandfather, Maya turns to drugs, alcohol and petty crimes. When she becomes trapped in a war between assassins, the police, the FBI and Interpol, her grandmother helps her escape to a remote island off the coast of Chile, where Maya tries to make sense of her life.
The book club, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Santa Maria Public Library, meets the fourth Tuesday of the month. To join, visit the second-floor information desk at the library, located at 421 S. McClelland St.
The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and closed Sunday.
