Eleanor Lukeman, 90, of Santa Maria, CA passed away on January 6, 2019. Eleanor was born in Casmalia, CA on January 22, 1928. She moved into town with her parents and two younger sisters when in high school. Coincidentally, the family moved across the street and kitty corner on Thornburg and Chapel where she met Bill Lukeman, the love of her life.
Eleanor, known to friends and family as Ellie, enjoyed fishing with Bill, playing the accordion, bowling with friends, and cooking seafood for a houseful. She loved trips to the casino, working crosswords, playing cards with her grandkids, and happy hour when the family dropped by after work. She liked reminiscing about the time she rode her horse into town to ride in the Elks Parade and loved sharing the story about catching the biggest trout at the Lopez Lake Trout Derby one year!
One of Eleanor's proudest accomplishments was her job as an LVN at Sister's Hospital where she worked in labor and delivery taking care of the newborn babies and mothers. Ellie and Bill also had four children and several grandchildren to keep them very busy. When their oldest daughter, Karen, struggled with kidney disease, Eleanor gave her one of her kidneys.
Eleanor knew how to be a good friend and neighbor and knew how to keep a confidence. She was cherished by her grandchildren and shared special relationships with many of them. Over her lifetime Eleanor had friendships far and wide especially her two best friends, sisters Nadyne and Janet. Ellie is remembered fondly for telling friends, family, and sometimes even strangers “You behave!”
Eleanor is survived by her children Joan Houser (Lewis) of Henderson, IA., Bill Lukeman (Jane) of Santa Maria, CA., and Luanne Reich (Anthony) of Queen Creek, AZ; eight grandchildren, Debbie Crenshaw (Craig), Jason Dutra (Cay), Sean Curiel (Rina), Ashley Houser, Luke Houser (Joni), Autumn Lord, Maureen Houser, and Jordan Starlin (Max); and eleven great grandchildren, Codee (Thedy), Max, Tatum, Isabel, Preston, Abigail, Mason, Lincoln, Kolton, Brecken, Kai, Ame, Elsie, and Violet. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Margaret Zanetti; husband, Bill Lukeman, daughter Karen Dutra, sisters Nadyne Jennings and Janet Pacheco, mother-in-law, Ynez Lukeman, father-in-law, W.O. Lukeman, sister-in-laws Rosalyn Thayer and Doreen Allen, and brother-in-laws J.R. Jennings and Donald Pacheco.
