Local celebrity Rona Barrett will be the keynote speaker at the fifth annual Santa Maria Public Library Foundation fundraiser on Feb. 10.
Slated to take place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the downtown library, the event will also feature the Tri City Sound Chorus will also perform.
The foundation is a nonprofit organization which benefits all of the libraries in the Santa Maria Public Library system including Cuyama, Guadalupe, Los Alamos, Orcutt and Santa Maria.
In 2018, the foundation worked closely with library staff and local community grantors to fund more than $10,000 in programs and services, including the completion of the local history photo displays, seed libraries and gardening books, STEAM learning kits for children at each library location, two library public service announcements for local television stations, the library’s Volunteer Recognition lunch and prizes for winners of the annual Cowboy Poetry event.
Barrett is the founder and president of the Rona Barrett Foundation, the organization behind the Golden Inn & Village -- Santa Ynez Valley’s first independent living and affordable senior housing project.
A pioneering entertainment reporter, commentator and producer with a career spanning more than 30 years, she was called “the lady who turned entertainment coverage into big biz” by Variety magazine.
The lunchtime event is $50 per person and includes a choice of chicken or beef with rice pilaf or a vegetable pasta, catered by Moxie Cafe. All lunches come with salad and dessert. A no-host wine and beer bar will be provided by Moxie and a special silent auction will feature gifts donated by local businesses and individuals including a two-night stay at Chateau Edelweiss in Arroyo Grande.
