Temple Beth El in Santa Maria celebrated Hanukkah on Sunday with a party featuring traditional latke potato pancakes and applesauce. Participants lit candles on Menorahs during a ceremony marking the eight-day Jewish holiday.
The period commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the second century BCE.
Participants in Sunday’s party raffled off crafts made by synagogue members in one of their major fundraisers for Temple Beth El for the year.
