Renowned percussionist and singer Sheila E. will take the stage at the Santa Maria Fairpark during this summer's Santa Barbara County Fair.
Sheila E., who in 1984 launched her career through a collaboration with Prince during the "Purple Rain" recording sessions, will perform July 14 as part of the Bud Light Concert Series.
The "A Love Bizarre" singer, who also has collaborated with Beyoncé, Ringo Starr, Marvin Gaye and Gloria Estefan, is best known for her ability to transform pop, jazz and Latin sounds into energetic hits.
“Sheila E. expertly blends a variety of musical styles and delivers them in a dynamic performance," Santa Barbara County Fairpark CEO Richard Persons said. "We’re looking forward to the energy she’ll bring to her performance at the fair."
Her debut album, "The Glamorous Life," spun off the Grammy Award-nominated top 10 hit of the same name along with a second top 40 single, “The Belle of St. Mark.” During her tenure as a drummer, songwriter and musical director for Prince’s backup band, she released three solo albums and scored hits like “A Love Bizarre” and the romantic ballad “Hold Me.”
In additional to her accomplished musical career, Sheila E. has appeared in films like “Krush Groove,” “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane” and “Chasing Papi.” She has launched various music projects (including E Train and The E Family) and published her autobiography, “The Beat of My Own Drum.”
The concert is free with $12 paid admission to the Santa Barbara County Fair.
The fair runs from July 11 to 15 and attracts roughly 150,000 people per year. "Cowboys and Carousels" has been chosen as this year's theme.
