Activist Arnulfo Romero hands out materials during public comment at the Mayor's Task Force on Youth Safety meeting in July at the Minami Community Center.

The public will have another opportunity to share its views about what goals should be in the nearly finished strategic plan spelling out ways to reduce youth violence in the Santa Maria Valley.

The Santa Mayor's Task Force on Youth Violence will host a public forum from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, 600 S. McClelland St.

Progress about the framework and contents of the strategic plan-in-progress will be shared.

During the summer-long planning process, more than 100 specific steps were identified by the public, youth and families to address prevention, intervention, enforcement and re-entry.

The Mayor’s Task Force on Youth Safety has met several times since April and held forums and two safety fairs to identify programs offered and those needed. Information has been gathered from the community, schools and youth. All of that will tie together in the plan, which is intended to be completed this month or by mid-November.

Part of the plan also involves how to find funding.

Ultimately, the document will be sent to the Santa Maria City Council for adoption.
