Motorists who take Hutton Road to travel between Nipomo and Santa Maria will face delays for the next two weeks as road crews complete repairs near the Speedway.
Traffic was backed up a considerable distance Monday as work began to remove and replace failed pavement, place an overlay of asphalt and reconstruct shoulders from Vista Del Rio to the Nipomo Creek Bridge on Hutton Road.
Crews will work from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, March 9. During that time, traffic will be subject to detours or reduced to one-way controls with flaggers and pilot cars as required for each phase of work, according to the San Luis Obispo County Public Works Department.
Delays could last up to 10 minutes during major operations, according to Public Works officials. Motorists are advised to adjust their travel plans in consideration of the delays and consider alternate routes.
CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria was awarded the contract for almost $1.3 million. The contract also includes road work on Branch Mill Road near Arroyo Grande.
The project is funded by San Luis Obispo County road maintenance funds.
