A Tanglewood man armed with a large piece of wood was arrested Monday by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies responding to a report of a home burglary.

Around 9 a.m. on Monday, sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Santa Maria substation responded to a report of a man who broke into a home in the 3500 block of Satinwood Road and stole several items, a sheriff’s spokesman said. The victim reported that after he confronted the suspect the suspect swung a large piece of wood at him and ran away from the home.
Deputies searched the area and found Rayas standing near the corner of Sandalwood Drive and Myrtlewood Road, still holding a large piece of wood, the spokesman said. Rayas was arrested at gunpoint and booked at Santa Barbara County Jail.
