Soap actress Jensen Buchanan, charged with felony driving under the influence for a head-on collision just outside Buellton, appeared in Santa Maria Superior Court on Friday for arraignment, which was continued to Sept. 9.
Buchanan, 53, did not enter a plea for the second time to the charges stemming from the vehicle crash May 18, when she allegedly got behind the wheel of her Mercedes S550 with a blood alcohol level of 0.34 and drove directly into the path of a white Ford C-Max on Highway 154.
Prosecutor allege that Buchanan crossed the solid double yellow line on the highway and slammed head-on into the Ford, driven by Bradley Asolas, 56, of Camarillo.
Asolas suffered major injuries in the collision and had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was airlifted to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.
Buchanan also was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and arrested on suspicion of DUI. She was booked at the County Jail and posted $100,000 bail within 24 hours. The actress was charged in June.
On Friday, Buchanan appeared in court with her attorneys, wearing glasses and heels, dressed in a black blazer, with an ankle-monitoring bracelet (SCRAM) seen below her blue jumper dress.
Defense Attorney Alan Eisner said Buchanan had been wearing her SCRAM bracelet, living in a sober living facility and receiving treatment, in line with the conditions of her charges.
Judge James Iwasko ruled that as long as Buchanan keeps on her SCRAM bracelet and continues to live at the sober living facility, she did not have to appear at the next court date.
According to the actress' IMDB page, Buchanan, best known for her roles in soaps such as "One Life to Live," "Another World" and "General Hospital," most recently played Judge Elise Moxley on "The Young and the Restless."
