A Santa Maria man was stabbed Friday night when he fought a man who tried to steal a friend’s purse in San Luis Obispo.

Christopher Sebastian, 24, was treated at local hospitals for a single stab wound to his upper body and injury to his neck area, San Luis Obispo police said.

Sebastian was walking with 29-year-old Elizabeth Key of San Luis Obispo around 11:30 p.m. near Madonna and Los Osos Valley roads when someone tried to snatch Key’s purse.

Key held onto her purse, refusing to let it go, and Sebastian fought with the unidentified assailant.

She suffered minor hand injuries during the incident.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 30s, about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds, with dark hair, facial hair and wearing dark-colored clothing.
