The Santa Maria Police Department is investigating an incident involving a man who accidentally shot himself Friday night in northern Santa Maria.

At about 9:37 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots heard in the area of Donovan Road and Western Avenue. Upon arrival, no victim or witnesses were found.

Shortly after, police received a call from Marian Regional Medical Center, reporting a gunshot victim had been checked in. Officials said the victim, a 27-year-old Hispanic male, claimed he was shot in the torso near the intersection. 

However, it was determined the gunshot wound was accidentally self-inflicted and nonlife-threatening, police said.

The shooting is the city's second this past week and fourth this month.

The incident remains under investigation.
