California Highway Patrol officers are investing a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Sunday evening near Waller Park on Highway 135.
According to CHP Officer Rob Wallace, at about 6:30 p.m., an unidentified female was walking across Highway 135 when she was struck by a vehicle heading south.
Traffic heading southbound had a green light, according to Wallace, who added that when the pedestrian reached the middle of the right lane, in the crosswalk, she was hit by a vehicle.
After the crash, the vehicle continued heading south.
The suspect vehicle would have sustained serious damage as a result of the crash, Wallace said.
At about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office issued an Aware and Prepare Alert asking for the public to be on the lookout for a light-colored, four-door sedan.
Wallace said the vehicle may have been a Ford Explorer.
“We do have some leads that we are following up on,” Wallace said.
On Monday afternoon, CHP Sgt. Sergio Perez said investigators have impounded some vehicles for inspection in connection to the case but could not comment any further.
The Santa Barbra County Sheriff’s Office is handling the coroner’s investigation and will release more information about the victim once her family has been notified.
