Proud car owners displayed about a dozen all-electric and hybrid vehicles Saturday in a special educational show presented in Solvang by the Los Padres Chapter of the Sierra Club.
Dealers were not allowed to participate in the show, set up in the parking lot of Centennial Plaza on Alisal Road. Only the owners of electric and hybrid vehicles were allowed to display their cars.
The owners extolled the virtues of their clean machines and explained the day-to-day operation to the many curious onlookers who had the opportunity to sit inside the cars and ask questions.
A Sierra Club spokesman said the benefits of owning electric and hybrid vehicles is that they run clean, with zero tailpipe emissions for the all-electric models, yet many provide outstanding performance and range with almost no maintenance.
Vehicles featured at the show included the Tesla Model S P85D, the Tesla Model X and Tesla Roadster as well as the BMW i3, Chevy Spark, Mercedes Benz B Class and Nissan Leaf.
The event was held in celebration of National Drive Electric Week.
