In observance of Veterans Day, numerous events are planned today across the Central Coast in hopes of paying tribute to the selfless sacrifice of America’s veterans. Everything from parades to barbecues to commemorative ceremonies are scheduled for the national holiday. Here are a few of the events slated:
Breakfast, ceremony at Vets building
The U.S. Air Force will host a Veterans Day breakfast at the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building at 8 a.m. today, to be followed by a ceremony put on by the VFW Post 1717 at 11 a.m.
The breakfast, which will be free for veterans and their families, will include eggs, sausage, french toast, potatoes and a drink. The VFW ceremony, featuring guest speakers, will be free and open to the public.

Celebration at Lodge
The Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave., will host a Veterans Day celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. The event is open to everyone.
Lunch, which will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be free for veterans and $3 for all others. There will be displays of military memorabilia and the Rip Tide Big Band will play from noon to 3 p.m. For more information, call 733-0601.
Barbecue at Veterans Memorial Hall
The Veterans Memorial Hall, 313 W. Tunnel St., will host a free barbecue today for all veterans, reservists, active military, members and their immediate families in an event starting at 10:30 a.m.
The barbecue will be preceded by a patriotic parade, which will be followed by a flag ceremony. The general public is requested to donate $5 per plate.
Ceremony at Santa Maria Cemetery
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2521, will host a memorial event at 11 a.m. today at the Santa Maria Cemetery.
Guest speakers will include Air Force Col. Shahnaz Punjani, the commander of the 30th Launch Group at Vandenberg Air Force Base, and Lt. Marian Marrinan, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. The post will pay special tribute to those veterans who died and did not get a service, honoring them with a three-volley salute.

Luncheon at Veterans Memorial Hall
Veterans will be honored with patriotic music and a luncheon at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1745 Mission Drive, at 11 a.m. today.
Entertainment will be provided by the Santa Ynez Valley Master Chorale and the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School Band. The keynote speaker will be Rear Adm. Brian Brown.
The program will be followed by a hot dog and potato salad lunch, scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
Celebration at Pismo Pier
The Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce will host a Veterans Day Celebration on Pismo Pier.
The free event starts at 11 a.m. today and will feature posting of the colors, speeches, and the playing of taps, allowing the public to celebrate and remember the county’s veterans.

San Luis Obispo County
Free car wash at 4 locations
In honor of Veterans Day, all four Sunset North Car Wash locations in San Luis Obispo County will give veterans and active-duty military personal a free car wash (basic hand wash only).
Last year, the four locations provided 296 car washes valued at $4,437.
