Now through Dec. 31, Santa Barbara County Car Free initiative, "Take the Train," will reward travelers who take the train with a 20 percent discount on Amtrak Pacific Surfliner travel vouchers, in addition to special savings on Santa Barbara-based attractions and activities.
In exchange for utilizing the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner that connects San Luis Obispo and San Diego through Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, travelers going to or from Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Goleta (UCSB), or Lompoc-Surf and Guadalupe (plus associated Amtrak thruway buses to Solvang, Santa Maria and Buellton), will receive a 20 percent discount on travel costs.
Additionally, travelers who show their purchased Amtrak tickets (paper, e-ticket, or mobile device) can access savings to several Santa Barbara-based attractions and activities that include: sailing cruises, wine tasting, dining, shopping, museum and zoo visits, and hotels.
According to the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District, which measures pollutants 24 hours a day for the entire county, cars contribute significantly to air pollution, and by encouraging a car free, carefree travel to and around Santa Barbara, locals can reap the benefits of cleaner air -- and a healthier planet.
The Santa Barbara Car Free Project was founded in 1998 by Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District and run in cooperation with more than 100 businesses, agencies, organizations and individuals.
Train tickets must be purchased three days in advance (certain restrictions apply) at: https://www.santabarbaracarfree.org/train. For more details and a complete list of special savings and experiences in Santa Barbara, visit www.santabarbaracarfree.org/2019-car-free-experience.
