Joe Dana led a presentation on his great-great grandfather Captain William Goodwin Dana, who came to present-day Nipomo after traveling from Massachusetts to the Pacific Ocean and Santa Barbara.
The presentation was part of the Heart of the Valley series at the Santa Maria Public Library.

Dana lived at Casa de Dana in Nipomo with wife Maria Josefa from 1839 until his death in 1858. Maria Josefa died in 1883.
