12 young musicians qualify for state regionals

Piano students who auditioned to perform at the California Association of Professional Music Teachers state regional festivals met with success recently.

Of the 17 students participating in the 28th annual piano auditions and ensemble auditions offered through the Central Coast Music Teachers Association, 12 qualified to perform at regionals in February.

Participating teachers included Alan Boehmer, of Los Osos; Emily Fitzgerald, of Cambria; Lynne Garrett, of Santa Maria; Belva Hanson, of Santa Maria; Deborah Lagomarsino, of Paso Robles; and Mary Stornetta, of Arroyo Grande.

The event was held at the home of Belva Hanson and Community Baptist Church in San Luis Obispo. The adjudicator was Louise Frye, of Nipomo.

The auditions and ensemble programs offered through the California Association of Professional Music Teachers are open to piano students of all ages who desire to perform solo and accompanied music as well as to perform in an ensemble format.

The Northern Festival will be held Feb. 3 at Peace Lutheran Church in Danville. The Southern Festival will be held Feb.17 at Los Angeles Harbor College in Wilmington.
