Five local piano students have qualified to compete in the California Association of Professional Music Teachers state regional festivals in February.

The five competed along with 10 other local students in the 29th annual Piano Auditions and Ensemble Auditions through the Central Coast Music Teachers Association on Nov. 16 and 17.

Participating teachers included Betty Hansen and Belva Hanson of Santa Maria, Nell Kauffman of Arroyo Grande, Deborah Lagomarsino of Paso Robles and Mary Stornetta of Arroyo Grande.

The event was held on Friday, Nov. 16, at the home of Belva Hanson and on Saturday, Nov. 17, at Community Baptist Church in San Luis Obispo. The Auditions and Ensemble programs offered through CAPMT are open to piano students of all ages who desire to perform solo and accompanied music as well as to perform in an ensemble format. The adjudicator for the Friday event was Louise Frye of Nipomo, and the adjudicator for the Saturday event was India D'Avignon of San Luis Obispo.

The Southern Festival will be Feb. 3 at Los Angeles Harbor College in Wilmington, California. The Northern Festival will be Feb. 16 at Peace Lutheran Church in Danville, California.
