Band of Brothers veterans softball holds opening ceremony

  • Updated

Band of Brothers hosted their Softball Opening Ceremonies recently at the James Hagerman Softball Complex.

Band of Brothers is a group of military veterans from all branches. Including softball, they also have a pool league and have recently formed a bowling league at Rancho Bowl on Sundays. Additionally, the group is involved in community events and causes, including fighting depression, veteran suicide and helping those who need assistance.

The Softball Opening Ceremonies was a family-friendly event open to the public. Special guest, Jesse Orosco, two-time World Series champion with the Mets in ’86 and the Dodgers in ’88, threw out the first ball. Orosco is the record holder for the most appearances by a pitcher in major league history. Other activities included a color guard, awards and the singing of the national anthem.

The nonprofit ECHO Group contributes funding and support to the Band of Brothers. ECHO Group has also created a home to several veterans in our community that may otherwise be homeless. Proceeds from the sale of T-shirts and hats on opening night went to the organization.
