Sparkie is visiting a regional open space park in the Solomon Hills about 12 miles southeast of Santa Maria City Hall.
Occupying nearly 2.8 square miles, the park includes miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. Dogs are welcome on leash -- to keep them from chasing bobcats!
Approximately 750 acres of the ranch are open to the public. The remaining 1,050 acres are designated for a future landfill.
The City of Santa Maria provides recreational programs at the park.
