Mark Gerald Morris was born on September 21st 1934 in Glendale, CA and passed peacefully in his sleep July 29, 2018 at Merrill Gardens, Santa Maria CA, after a long and happy life.
When he was three, his parents divorced and his mother took him and his older sister Edna Mae back to Cleveland Ohio where her family resided. There he grew up with many aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents. With no child support and a single mother's salary in the 30s, what Mark lacked in money, he made up for in good looks and athletic ability. At the age of eight he joined the YMCA swim team where he met his coach and mentor Gordon Spare. By the time he graduated from Shaw High School in East Cleveland he was the Ohio State champion in individual medley and the 220 free style as well as on the winning team for three years at the AAV long distance race held in NY State. This, in turn, led to a full scholarship to Case Institute of Technology (now Case Western Reserve) in Cleveland Ohio.
In September 1955 he married his High School sweetheart, Linda Mehnert. In June 1956 he graduated from Case and in January 1957 saw the arrival of his first child, Susan Lee.
Mark is predeceased by his parents, Cecelia Nichols and James F. Morris as well as his sister Edna Mae Lemers and his son-in-law, John Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, his 3 children, Susan, Scott and Tim, six grandchildren, Matthew, Luke, Hilary, Ryan, Lily and Sami. And two great grandchildren Ezra and Ellis Smith.
Not having grown up with a father, he had to figure out fathering on his own. He was a great dad. Always sacrificing for his kids and loving them, even if he didn't know how to say so.
Although Mark was successful professionally eventually managing 4 manufacturing plants from Pennsylvania to British Columbia, he came to realize that his greatest accomplishment, the one that brought him the most joy and many blessings was his family. He was very proud of every one of them.
