Heaven gained a very special Angel when Margaret 'Peggy' Hendry passed on January 4, 2019 in the loving company of her family. Peggy is survived by her son, James Hendry of Portland Oregon, her daughter Mary Ann Cross of Golden Colorado, her son Sam Hendry of Orcutt California and her 8 adoring grandchildren, Andrew, Phillip, Robin, Spenser, Allie, Natalie, Ryan and Samantha.
She will also be dearly missed by her daughters-in-law Karen Hendry and Medelia Hendry.
Her loving husband of 39 years James Hendry predeceased her in 1994.
Born in Royal Oak, Michigan, Peggy was raised by Irish parents in Newark, New Jersey attending high school there and working as a nurse and a bank teller.
It was in Newark that she met and married the love of her life, James, in June, 1955.
After living in Germany and Washington State, Peggy moved to Santa Maria in 1968.
Peggy was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church for 46 years volunteering as a Sunday School Teacher and Awanas leader for the Church.
She also worked at the Care Net Pregnancy and Resource Center and the Projects Angels Food Bank.
Peggy was a devoted mother and wife who also volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and Girl Scout leader.
Peggy will be remembered for her sense of humor, generosity and kindness.
Peggy enjoyed, cooking, gardening, spending time with friends and caring for her family.
Most importantly, Peggy loved helping people learn the teachings of Christ.
The Viewing will be from 4-7 on Friday, January 18th at Dudley Hoffman Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service for Peggy will be held at Dudley Hoffman Funeral Home on January 19th at 9:00 am. 1003 East Stowell Road, Santa Maria.
