Leann Marie Purdum

Leann M. Purdum, 55, of Santa Maria went home to be with the Lord on December 22, 2017. Leann was born December 23, 1961 in Santa Maria California to James G. Bowden and Pauline C. (Grace) Bowden. Leann was a life-long Santa Maria resident. She attended Oakley Elementary School, El Camino Jr. High and graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1980. She attended Allan Hancock College.

Leann was very active growing up in Santa Maria. She was a very good swimmer and was on the City of Santa Maria Swim Team in the 1970's. She was also involved in the International Rainbow for Girls – Santa Maria Assembly #92 and was Worthy Advisory in 1980. She received the Grand Cross of Color for her years of Service. Leann was also active in the Blue birds and Camp Fire Girls and received the highest award.

Leann worked at Vocational Training Center (VTC) and loved working with her many clients over the years.

Leann married John Purdum on October 15, 2005 in Santa Maria. They both graduated from Santa Maria High School. They served on their Reunion committee many times.

Leann met John through her co-workers, who were working at his place of employment. They tried for several years to get them together. He finally made the phone call and they talked for a couple of weeks before they officially met. On their 4th dating anniversary, He asked her, “Will you be my best friend for the rest of our lives?”, and the rest was a fairy tale romance.

Leann was part of the Catholic retreat community known as SEARCH for at least 25 years. It was a large part of her life to do God's will and promote His unconditional love. Through her laughter, twinkling eyes and ever-present peacefulness and joyful outlook it was evident to all who knew her she was a child of God in the best sense of the word. She showed to many, how to live in a Godly way, always respectful and loving unconditionally. She didn't just practice what she believed, but lived it every day of her beautiful and blest life and impressed all who came in contact with her. She will truly be missed by everyone that had the blessing to make her acquaintance or call her friend.

Leann was very proud of her family history. She was a member of the Santa Barbara Mayflower Society and attended many Santa Barbara Colony meetings. Leann also was a member of Captain Henry Sweetser Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
