Lino Mejia was lifted to the heavens to be with the Lord and reunited with his parents on February 1, 2019. He was born on September 25, 1963 in Santa Maria, California to Aquilino and Francisca Mejia. He was a lifelong resident of the area, attending local schools, and spending a great deal of his life working in sales, including many years with Larrabee Brothers Distributing Co. Lino will be best remembered for his infectious free spirit personality and his genuine care for others. He made many friends over the years, touching each of their lives in a very unique way. Family and friends were very important to Lino and he absolutely enjoyed family traditions, especially during the holidays. Lino enjoyed making people laugh and telling stories that he often embellished and left us wondering if he was being truthful or just pulling our leg. It was that playful spirit and his ability to lighten the mood of any gathering that those who knew him really enjoyed and loved about him. Among his many joys were to spend time with family and friends enjoying a cold one while eating Santa Maria style BBQ and watching his favorite sports teams, the Washington Redskins, LA Lakers and the LA Dodgers. As a father, Lino loved his son more than life itself. He provided unconditional love and devotion to him and enjoyed creating many father/son memories that will forever be cherished. He especially loved that he and his son both shared a passion for football, making each football season one of the best times of the year for both of them. His other favorite pass times included playing golf and going to the lake with his friends. For the past two years, Lino's absolute favorite role was that of grand-father to his precious two-year old grand-daughter Mila. He doted about Mila and enjoyed many conversations with her via Face Time and was so eager to share pictures and videos of her to everyone near and far from him. A true proud grandpa who is now an angel watching over Mila and all of his family and friends.
Lino is survived by his son and daughter in-law Joseph and Tiffany and grand-daughter Mila Mejia of Mooresville, North Carolina, his siblings, Joe (Lynda) Mejia of Nipomo, Jose (Bertha) Mejia of Sacramento, Sonia (Andy) Garcia of Santa Maria and Frank (Laura) Mejia of Orcutt. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and his friends that he loved like family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Aquilino and Francisca Mejia.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at St Louis de Montfort Catholic Church at 9:30 am with a reception to follow.
