Jim passed away on September 29, 2017 from complications of a fall. Jim was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. Upon graduation from West Fulton High School he enlisted in the United States Air Force. His first duty assignment was to Vandenberg AFB, where he met his future wife.

Enlistment completed, Jim returned to Santa Maria and married Susie (Sue) Hanson. Shortly thereafter, they moved to the Atlanta, GA area to start their life together. Jim had several jobs before deciding to go to work for the Federal Government. That job took the family to Florida, back to Georgia, then to two locations in California, then Texas, and New Mexico where he retired with 20 years of service.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, working on cars, and occasionally cooking. His grandkids especially like his BBQ ribs and lemonade. He was an animal lover and over the years he had horses, dogs, cats, geese, and chickens (all very spoiled).

Jim is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Sue Shipp, daughter Jennifer Garnica, son Carl (Bo) and daughter-in-law Christie Shipp, 8 grandchildren (Katie, Stephanie, Ashley, Hannah, Katherine, Lola, Nick, and Kannon), 1 great-granddaughter (Bella), and a great-grandson on the way, 2 sisters, Jeanne and Jeri, in Georgia, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. And his cat Nyla.

His parents James and Charlotte Shipp preceded him in death.

Services are pending.
