Andrew Wade, 55, passed away April 8, 2018 in Elizabethton, TN. To family and friends throughout California he was known as Andy. To those at work and throughout Tennessee he was Chief.
Andy was born Lakota Sioux in Omaha, Nebraska. He was adopted by Lt. Col Austin and Martha Wade. They transferred to Rapid City, South Dakota before Austin's retirement at Vandenberg AFB, CA. He was one of four children.
After attending Righetti High School, Andy performed a wide range of jobs. His last job was for Southern Maintenance working on precipitators. Andy was skilled with his hands. He could build or fix anything. While he had difficulty reading, he found ways to compensate, often finding himself in managerial positions. Andy lived a nomadic life, working and traveling all over the country. He lived simply. As long as he had his dogs with him, he was a happy man.
Andy loved being at one with nature. He surfed, roller skated, played sports, threw Frisbees, flew kites. He loved sleeping under the stars, camping, taking time to smell the flowers. His physical stature was large and intimidating but he was a teddy bear at heart. He lived and loved with his whole being. When he was with you, you had all of Andy. He lived in the moment. Ours is a family of service and Andy was no exception. He would literally give you the shirt off his back or the last dollar in his pocket. He knew he would be ok, that God always provided for him.
Andy is survived by his brother and sister-in- law, Bruce and Kathy Wade; his sister Becky Wade; her children and their in-laws , Amber and Andrew Peterson and their children A.J. and Austin; Megan Padilla and Andy Meeks; Alex Frederiksen ; his Aunt Mary Ingram and numerous cousins. Andy never married but raised two girls as his daughters. He is survived by Jo Ann Howell and her children: Christian Mann, Katalayah Mann, Ella Baker, Killian Howell, and Damion Howell; Melissia Jaime and her children Jerritt Isdell, Haley Mann and Mark Downing.
He was preceded in death by both parents, Austin Wade and Martha Lowe; grandparents Thomas and Sadie Wade, Robert and Floy Jacob; Uncles and Aunts Elmo and Elizabeth Marble; Don and Lydia McIntosh and Floyd Ingram. He was also preceded in death by his birth parents.
Andy's wishes were to be cremated and scattered at sea. We are planning to have a Native American ceremony for him and a memorial tree dedication. In lieu of flowers or cards please consider a donation to Central Coast Rescue Mission, PO Box 6467, Santa Maria, CA 93456.
