The Pioneer Valley High School athletic department announced Monday that Brandi Carney will become the new head coach for the Pioneer Valley girls basketball program.

Carney has been coaching in the Panther program for the past four years and has been the varsity assistant for the past two. In the 2010-11 season, Carney led the freshman team to a perfect 16-0 record. In the past, Carney has assisted at Santa Maria High, St. Joseph High and Allan Hancock College.

Last year she helped as the team compiled a 21-3 record as the Panthers won its first-ever league championship in the school’s history.

Carney earned an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Hancock College, then a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University.  She is currently working on her teaching credential.
