Paso Robles went unbeaten in PAC 7 League duals, and the Bearcats cruised to the team championship at Pioneer Valley High School Saturday.
The Bearcats outscored runner-up Atascadero 251.50-225, earning an automatic berth in the CIF Southern Section Team Duals Tournament. The tourney is scheduled to take place at Norwalk John Glenn High School next Saturday.
Righetti finished third with 204 points Saturday. Pioneer Valley was fourth with 191.5, San Luis Obispo fifth with 91, Arroyo Grande sixth with 90.5 and St. Joseph seventh with 73.
Several Santa Maria Valley wrestlers, along with top-ranked Bryan Rozo of Arroyo Grande (126 pounds) won individual titles Saturday.
Righetti wrestlers Anthony Hernandez (120 pounds), Stuart Malm (132), Luke Wilson (152) and Dante Gamble (Heavyweight) all won championships.
In their respective title matches, Hernandez scored a 14-4 major decision over Raymond Rodriguez of Pioneer Valley; Malm earned a 12-4 major decision over Dan Santos of Atascadero; WIlson stopped Pioneer Valley’s Rudy Salgado in 54 seconds; and Gamble pinned Jon Katz of Paso Robles 1:18 into the second round.
Roy Ruiz and Miguel Ruiz of Pioneer Valley, along with St. Joseph’s Clay Teixeira, all won their championship matches.
Roy Ruiz pinned Jimmy Pacheco of Paso Robles 1:17 into the second round of the 195-pound title match; Miguel Ruiz claimed the 220-pound crown with a 6-3 decision over Paso Robles’ Josh Hayley; and Gamble pinned the Bearcats’ Jon Katz 1:18 into the second round for the heavyweight championship.
Teixeira defeated Seth Burchfield of Atascadero 9-6. All of the Santa Maria Valley champions were top-seeded.
