Pianist/composer Stefan Karlsson will perform from 1 to 4 p.m. June 7 at the 10th annual Los Olivos Jazz & Olive Festival in Los Olivos.
The Jazz & Olive Festival will feature wines from 30 vintners with olive-related food tastings created by 30 amateur chefs, and superb live jazz for an all-inclusive price of $60 per person.
A favorite from previous years at the festival, Karlsson, a native of Sweden, came to the United States in 1984 to study at the University of North Texas where he earned bachelor and master degrees and now teaches.
Karlsson has been a member of the Eddie Gomez Trio and Quartets since 1996. The groups have included drummers Jimmy Cobb, Billy Hart, Duduka Da Fonseca, Steve Gadd, Billy Drummond, Nasheet Waits, Ed Soph and flautist Jeremy Steig. He has extensively toured the globe with Gomez’s groups, and has been a part of six CD projects. He also stays very active leading his own projects. As a composer, his music has been featured in movies and television series, and his discography includes 68 recordings with eight as a leader.
Karlssonn’s work involves extensive travel which has taken him both as a performer and clinician to Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil and throughout the U.S.
“With such a busy schedule, we are very fortunate that Stefan has taken time for the last few years to participate in the Los Olivos Jazz & Olive Festival,” Rotarian Peter Robbins said.
Since the event has sold out in recent years, those wishing to attend are advised to purchase tickets in advance by phone at 325-9280 or online at jazzandolivefestival.org.
