emPower expands energy savings
In the year since the emPower Central Coast Program expanded to the Tri-County Area, the number of homeowners contacting the energy efficiency program for information on resources and services has more than doubled to over 10,000, an organization spokesman said.
Launched by Santa Barbara County in 2011, emPower provides homeowners with free energy consultations with energy coaches, connects homeowners with qualified local contractors and makes utility incentives and low-interest financing available.
Since it officially expanded to Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties in July 2014, 5,308 homeowners have contacted the program for information on lowering home energy use.
The spokesman said emPower energy coaches have also visited 355 houses to determine how homeowners can conserve energy, save money and create a healthier home.
To date, 675 energy efficiency projects have been initiated, with 152 of them completed, saving an average of 29 percent in energy use, according to contractor estimates, and generating more than $3 million in projects for participating contractors, the spokesman said.
