I had a feeling Week Zero would bring a lot of excitement, but I had no idea it'd be quite like this.

Sure there weren't any close games, but there were a lot of impactful individual performances.

The best part? There are obviously some names and faces we are all familiar with. There are also some that are new.

For instance, Brandon Giddings and Julian Leon over at Righetti both had breakout games. Giddings threw three TDs, two of those going to Leon. (FYI, if we had Play of the Week voting there's no doubt that it would go to Jalen Davis for his AMAZING one-handed catch).

Then we have guys like Blake Truhitte and Isiah Garcia at Santa Maria. Truhitte threw for more than 100 yards and rushed for more than 100 again. Isiah Garcia rushed for 100 yards and two scores while also intercepting a pass on defense.

Of course Toa Taua at Lompoc did his thing, making 160 yards and two scores look like a walk in the park.

There was a new name at Lompoc that jumped out of the box score: Leondre Coleman. The sophomore had 3.5 sacks against Arroyo Grande. The Eagles usually have a very stout offensive line but that didn't halt Coleman from wreaking havoc.

Dustin Gregg certainly isn't a new name, but this year he's making moves at a new position. He was nearly perfect for the Pirates in his starting QB debut against San Marcos on Friday. (Santa Ynez had a number of worthy candidates, with Cash Transeth rushing for 3 TDs and 130 yards with Trey Duus adding 109 and 2 TDs, but Gregg was nearly perfect, so I went with him).

Can't forget about Edgar Zacarias at Pioneer Valley. (By the way, I had him ranked No. 19 on my list and all he did was go out and be literally perfect kicking for the Panthers at Nipomo on Friday).

Also, please remember to have your coaches or whomever keep stats up to date on Maxpreps or send them directly to me so I can have all the proper candidates up here!

Remember, you can vote multiple times throughout the week on all three of our sites, the Santa Ynez Valley News, the Lompoc Record, and the Santa Maria Times. The winner will be announced before Friday's games kick off. The votes from all three sites will be combined to determine the winner.

Those are all the candidates for this week. Here are all the numbers:

Brandon Giddings, Righetti, JR QB: 5 for 9 159 yards, 3 TDs.

Julian Leon Righetti, SR WR-DB: 2 catches, 100 yards, 2 TDs; 5 tackles, PBU.
