Bakersfield Frontier's wrestling team had a bash at The Bash Saturday.

Frontier dominated at the 22nd annual The Bash, Don Olson Memorial at Pioneer Valley High School and won the team championship with 273 points.

Visalia Redwood was a distant second with 157. Arroyo Grande finished third in the 30-team field with 137.

First-year Pioneer Valley coach Kent Olson was the former veteran Lemoore coach, and he hosted the tournament when he coached there. He resumed the tournament at Pioneer Valley this year.

Lompoc wound up 10th with 93.5 points Saturday. Nipomo finished 13th with 84, Santa Maria 16th with 72, Pioneer Valley finished 17th with 69.5, Cabrillo wound up 20th with 48.5 and St. Joseph was 21st with 40.

Two Arroyo Grande wrestlers claimed weight class titles. Trevor Melsheimer won at 145 pounds, and Isaac Munoz won at 182.

Meanwhile, four Frontier wrestlers won titles. The Frontier winners were Noah Ozuna (113 pounds), Jose Landin (126), Garrett Fletcher (132) and Trent Tracy (170).

Lower weight class winners included Richard Lopez of Tracy Merrill West (106 pounds), Ozuna at 113, Jose Aguinga of Coalinga at 120, Landin at 126, Fletcher at 132, Lorenzo DelaCruz of Redwood at 138 and Melsheimer at 145.

Upper weight class winners included Juan Lopez of La Puente Bishop Amat at 152 pounds, Albert Urias of Bakersfield Ridgeview at 160, Tracy at 170, Maez at 182, Adrian Chavez of Bakersfield Liberty at 195, Amador Bautista of Redwood at 220 and Kaleb Abernathy of Bakersfield Centennial at 285.

Santa Maria's Frank Lopez was the 160-pound runner-up. Coleman Hubert of Arroyo Grande finished second at 113.

Jesse Garza of Nipomo placed second at 195 pounds. Jacob Nunez of Lompoc was the runner-up at 285.

Nunez's teammate, Nick Jones, finished third at 220 pounds. Eluterio Edralin of Santa Maria was third at 195, and Richard Sandoval of Santa Ynez wound up third at 120.

Boys Basketball

Coastal Christian 46, Valley Christian 32

Arroyo Grande’s Coastal Christian Conquerors edged Coast Valley League rival Valley Christian in a non-league game at the annual I-Charge tournament ay Valley Christian Academy.

Kiernan Quinones led all scorers with 15 points. Ethan McCoy finished with eight points. Andrew Sparlin had five points and Joey Valadez and Jarrett Smith each added two.

Tyler Malley led Coastal with 12 points.

Valley Christian is off until Tuesday, Jan. 9, when they open CVL play at Coastal Christian.

Girls Basketball

Nipomo 51, Corcoran 26

TULARE — The Nipomo Titans wrapped up their trip to the Tulare Showcase with a victory over the Corcoran Panthers.

Abbey Gutierrez led the way for the Titans with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Clarissa Simonson and Kat Anderson each added nine points.

Simonson was named to the All-Tournament team.

Del Mar Tournament

SAN JOSE — St. Joseph (3-8) lost to Santa Clara Wilcox 58-54 Friday night then defeated Fair Oaks Del Campo 40-36 for third place Saturday night.

All-Tournament Team selection Sam Brackett popped in 18 points for St. Joseph against Del Campo and scored 19 against Wilcox. Jenna Patel scored 21 points against Wilcox. Maddie Miller put in 12 against Del Campo.
