Correction

In a Dec. 15 story about Santa Maria boxer Karlos Balderas, the name of Balderas' trainer was spelled incorrectly. 

Mark Salgado, the owner of Iron Rootz Personal Training, is working with both Karlos Balderas and his brother Jose Balderas.

Santa Maria Northside LL sign-ups

The Santa Maria Northside Little League is holding a series of registration dates in January.

Registration dates at the Edwards Center are Jan. 2, 9 and 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration at the Santa Maria Town Center Mall will take place Jan. 14 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration will coast $85. Fundraiser tickers will cost $50, for a total cost of $135.

Tryouts will take place Jan. 20, 21 and 28 at Tunnell Park, Northside's home site. Tryouts for eight-to-10-year-olds will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tryouts for 11-12-year-olds will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Late registration fee is $95. The fundraiser ticket price during late registration will remain at $50.

Lompoc Babe Ruth registration

Lompoc Babe Ruth begins sign-ups for its 2018 season with early bird registration on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at George Meyer Field from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A second and final early bird registration will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., also at Meyer Field.

These are the only early bird registration dates.

The early bird registration fee is $140 and includes four $10 barbecue tickets.

The fee increases to $175 for all ensuing registrations dates at Meyer Field; Saturdays, Jan. 13 and 20 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., and Wednesdays, Jan. 10, 17 and 24 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A birth certificate is required at registration.

Tryouts will be held at Meyer Field at 9 a.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 27 and Feb. 3.

The opening day barbecue will be held on Saturday, March 3.

Volunteers are needed for board positions, managers, coaches and umpires.

Boxing history on display

The Santa Maria Sports History Club has a display featuring the history of boxing in the Santa Maria Valley all month at the Santa Maris Public Library.

The display has memorabilia dating back to the 1930s and includes new items on loan to the club.

The club's last display was also held at the library during January of this year.

The library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m.; it is closed on Sunday.
