St. Joseph's Joseph Domingues runs at the Moopark Tri-County Invitational Saturday.


St. Joseph junior Joseph Domingues set a Moorpark Tri-County Invitational 800-meter record with a time of of 1 minute, 56.79 seconds.

The record was previously set in 2008 by Oak Park's Doug Bettisworth, with a time of 1:57:70.

This time also puts him at a California Elite mark. The time is also his second meet record of the year after hitting a record mark in Thousand Oaks three weeks ago.

Domingues also won the varsity Tri-County 1,600-meter race with a solo performance time of 4:29 at Moorpark as he doubled at the meet. Domingues is undefeated in the 800 and 1,600 this far in the 2018 season.

Domingues will be challenged next week when he races Justin Hazel, the state's Division 3 cross country champion and top miler from El Camino Real at Oaks Christian's Maurice Green Invite next week.

SM Swim Club qualifiers eight for Junior Nationals

The Santa Maria Swim Club has qualified eight of its swimmers for the NCSA Junior Nationals that will take place March 13-17 in Orlando, Florida.

SMSC qualifiers include Wyatt Marsalek (200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyles), Markos Hillje-Enthoven (50 and 100 freestyles, 200 butterfly), Austin Aguirre (50 and 100 freestyles, 200 breaststroke), Blake Simpson (200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyles), Keshaun Patel (1,000 and 1,650 freestyles), Parker Reynolds (1,000 and 1,650 freestyles), Izzy Fraire (50 and 100 freestyles, 200 breaststroke) and Saray Brown (50 and 100 freestyles, 200 breaststroke).

The eight qualifiers are the most the SMSC has sent to the junior nationals since 2016 Olympian Josh Prenot led a group of nine in 2009.

Smiley Wilkins Memorial Golf

The Santa Maria-Lompoc chapter of the NAACP is hosting the 24th annual Smiley Wilkins Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 21 at The Mission Club in Vandenberg Village.

The entry fee for the scramble format tournament is $135.

The cost for all foursomes that pre-pay by March 23 is $450. The registration deadline without the discount is April 15.

The entry fee includes one round of golf, golf carts, tee prizes and an awards dinner.

There will also be door prizes, a 50/50 drawing and an auction.

Door prize packets that include two mulligans and 40 door prize tickets can be pre-purchased for $40.

For non-golfers who would like to attend, dinner is available for $20.

The annual Smiley Wilkins Memorial raises funds that are used to provide scholarships to students who demonstrate the potential for academic success.

Hole sponsorships are also available for $150.

Lacrosse coach needed

Orcutt Youth Lacrosse is looking for a Lacrosse coach for the upcoming spring season.

The season runs from March until the middle of May.
