LONG BEACH - Jordan Hasay passed another big test Friday.
Hasay came to the University of Oregon this fall with a lot of fanfare after a blockbuster career at Mission Prep which included two national Foot Locker cross country championships, four USATF Junior Nationals championships, and the girls high school record (4:14.50) for 1,500 meters.
The Arroyo Grande native has lived up to the lofty expectations that accompanied her upon her arrival at Oregon. Hasay finished third at the PAC-10 Championships at Long Beach Friday.
Hasay ran the 6,000 meters course at Sky Links Golf Course in 19:48.97.
Hasay's teammate Nicole Blood won the race in 19:41.71. Kendra Schaff of the University of Washington finished second in 19:46.17.
Oregon's team finished second. Washington, as expected, won the team championship.
Blood worked with Hasay and eventually ran down Schaff with 1,000 meters left. Blood, a senior, goes out as a PAC-10 champion and the first Oregon woman to win the PAC-10 cross country championship since 1992.
Hasay played a role in Blood's winning.
"The race went really well," Blood told GoDucks.com. "Jordan, Alex (teammate Kosinski) and I were all in the lead pack and worked well together. After the second lap, Jordan moved past Mel (Lawrence of Washington), and I decided to go with her so we could continue to work together and reel in Schaaf.
"Then with 1,000 meters left, I decided to move hard on Schaff, and it felt good so I just kept going. That was probably the decisive moment of the race."
