Maldonado headed to state

Hancock's Monica Maldonado ran her way into the state meet on Friday with her performance at the Southern California Community College Championships at Mt. SAC.

Her 51st place in 20.04 qualified her for the Nov. 21 Woodward Park meet in Fresno.

Competing for the men were Benito Camarillo (104, 22.56), Orion Casteel (133, 23.35), Uriel Morales (173, 24.33), Jorge Vasquez (185, 25.45) and Cameron Caton (186, 25.56).

Cuesta women state-bound

Behind Kelly Barman's 2nd-place finish at Mt. SAC, the Cuesta Cougars women's cross country team earned a spot in Fresno for the state finals. The team finished seventh overall Friday.

The men, who finished 17th, await to see if they will also make the trip.

College volleyball

Moorpark sweeps Hancock

Hancock dropped this Western State Conference match in straight sets 25-13, 25-18, 25-19.

Allison Armstrong had eight digs and five kills, while Tiffany Isel served a nice game (five aces). Anakela Francisco contributed 19 digs. Stacey McCracken had six assists and Sadie DeQuattro had five.

College men's basketball

AHC hoops falls at Cuesta

Despite a furious late rally, Hancock fell in its game against College of the Sequoias at the Cuesta Tournament.

The Bulldogs did cut a 17-point deficit to four points before Sequoias recovered.

Hancock faces Fullerton City College today at 1 p.m. as the tourney continues.

Little League

Orcutt Babe Ruth

The Orcutt Babe Ruth has scheduled its annual membership meeting and elections to the 2010 board of directors for Sunday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting and elections will be held at the Pitchout Indoor Batting Cages, 2305 South A Street in Santa Maria.

Adults that love baseball and working with and for kids are encouraged to attend and support the league by becoming a volunteer.
