St. Joseph remains No. 3 in CIF football poll

The CIF Southern Section pollsters continue to give a lot of respect to Central Coast high school football programs.

Altogether 10 schools from the three local leagues are ranked after eight weeks of play.

Leading the way is St. Joseph High School, which remains ranked No. 3 in the Northwest Division, in poll results released Monday. St. Joseph stayed perfect on the season (8-0, 6-0 LPL) with its 34-14 victory over Morro Bay Friday night.

Other LPL schools ranked by the CIF voters are Pioneer Valley (7-1, 4-1 LPL; 59-7 victory over Santa Maria Friday) at No. 6, Templeton (6-2, 3-2; 41-14 win over Cabrillo) at No. 8, Nipomo (5-2, 3-2; 36-8 winner over Santa Ynez) at No. 9 and Santa Ynez (5-3, 3-2) at No. 11. Oaks Christian (8-0) and Junipero Serra (8-0) remain 1-2 in the Northwest Division poll.

In the Northern Division, The PAC-7 League's Arroyo Grande (7-1, 3-0 PAC-7; a 26-10 winner over Paso Robles) has climbed to the No. 5 spot with Atascadero (6-2, 2-1; 49-35 victory over Lompoc) at No. 9 and Righetti (6-2, 3-0; 13-3 victory over SLO) at No. 10. Moorpark (8-0), Valencia (8-0), St. Bonaventure (7-1) and Westlake (8-0) hold the Nos. 1-4 spots in the division.

In 8-man football's Division II, Valley Christian Academy (6-1-1, 3-0 Coast Valley League; a 34-18 winner over North County Christian on Saturday that wrapped up the CVL title) sits at No. 7 with Maricopa at No. 10, both from the CVL.

Righetti and Arroyo Grande remain in the Top 10 in Division IV of boys water polo with Righetti voted No. 5 and AG No. 8. Santa Ynez is No. 11 in Division VI.

Cabrillo holds the No. 9 spot in Division III of boys cross country while Morro Bay continues to hold the No. 2 spot in Divison IV. In Division IV of girls cross country, Morro Bay is No. 7, Templeton No. 8 and St. Joseph No. 13.

Arroyo Grande and Santa Ynez continue to be ranked in the Top 10 in girls volleyball. AG is No. 7 in Division I-A while Santa Ynez is No. 6 in Division IV-A.

San Luis Obispo holds the No. 7 ranking in Division III of girls tennis. St. Joseph is No. 8 in Division IV with Santa Ynez right behind at No. 9.

Guadalupe hoops sign-ups

Guadalupe Youth Basketball sign-ups will be held on Nov. 3 and No. 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Mary Buren Elementary School. The league is open to all boys and girls from Kindergarten through the ninth grade.

The cost is $25 for the first child. There cost for each additional child from the same household is $20.
