St. Joseph cross country runners had a big day at the Atascadero Cross Country Invitational at Santa Margarita Lake Saturday.

Joseph Domingues Jr. led the Knights to the Varsity Boys championship, and St. Jsoeph senior Kiana Kawatachi won the Varsity Girls race. Kawatachi finished in 19 minutes, 42.17 seconds.

Domingues was the runner-up in 17:36 in the Varsity Boys race. Scoring teammates following were Matthew Reyes (third place), Arjun Patel (11th), Jacob Gomez (14th) and Caleb Malfo (19:19).

Bakersfield Garces finished second in the team standings. Nipomo placed third, Cabrillo was fourth and Mission Prep was fifth.

Cabrillo won the Varsity Girls division with 28 points. Orcutt Academy finished second with 83, St. Joseph was a point behind with 84 and Garces was fifth with 95.

Freshman Mackenzie Webb led Orcutt with a third-place finish. Scoring teammates following were Talia Mata (ninth), Valerie Winyuwongse (13th), Rachel Carlson (27th) and Kaylee Kamiya (31st).

Scoring teammates following Kawatachi were Taylor Costa (17th place), Samantha Santana (19th), Jenna Wellenkamp (22nd) and Erin McAuliff (25th).

Desert Twilight Invitational

Orcutt Academy placed third in the Boys Small Schools Race at this meet that took place Friday night in Casa Grande, Arizona.

"There were 30 or 40 teams " in the Boys Small Schools division, Spartans coach Roger Fabing said.

Daniel Ordonez led Orcutt with a 17th-place finish. Scoring teammates following were Robert Spencer (34th), Jose Sanchez (39th), Brance Sharp (51st) and Lorenzo Papworth (75th).

Times for the Spartans were unavailable.

Christian Ricketts led the Arroyo Grande boys to a 13th-place finish in a 28-team field in the Boys Sweepstakes Race, the highest-level boys race at the meet.

Ricketts finished third in 15:10. Scoring teammates following were Jacob Emeterio (32nd place), Luis Jazo (88th), Travis Cote (125th) and Spencer Eley (129th).

Three Eagles ran in the Boys Large Schools Varsity Race. Brigham Badebout finished 33rd in 17:14. Cooper Limon placed 63rd and Jacob Sabatino placed 88th.

Warriors wrap up play at Villa Park Tournament

Righetti finished fifth at the tournament with two wins on Saturday.

Righetti beat La Serna 17-8 and Villa Park 10-8. Andrew Rivera was named to the All-Tournament team, recording nine goals and 25 assists in five tournament games.

Rivera had four goals in the win over La Serna. Caleb Sandberg also had four goals, Robert Groppetti, Ryker Dacus and Austin Nims added two scores apiece. Kyle Goodrich, Noah Wasylychn and Ty Cabanas scored once each.

Thomas Lane had 11 saves in the La Serna win and eight against Villa Park.

Righetti lost to El Toro Friday night, 10-9. The Warriors trailed 7-3 at halftime of that one. Dacus had five goals against El Toro, Goodrich had two, Rivera and Sandberg each scored once as Lane made 11 saves.

The Warriors are now 11-3 overall on the year and play St. Joseph Tuesday.
