Critter Corner: We have quail that have decided to stay with us for the winter and there are several of them. They must like the food Papa serves, as they consume it every day by the ton, and they are also eating down my geranium plants. I don't know what it is with the geraniums that they love, but they sure do eat it all up. Soon I might not have any left and will have to plant a new batch. But if it makes them happy I will do so. I'm just wondering whether the batch of quail that usually comes during the spring will appear this year. If they do we'll have not flocks, or gaggles, but herds of quail coming to our yard, and to the poor house we will go.
Memorial services for Carol Lindley will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Blacklake Club House beginning at 1 p.m. Carol was a wonderful contributor to the community, serving on many of boards and also working as a contributing member to the Dana Adobe, was one of the charter members of the Nipomo Lions Club, and many other groups in the Blacklake and Nipomo area. She will be missed by many.
Nipomo Library: Community conversations to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, have been canceled. A future date for this discussion will be determined, and we will let you know as soon as we are told. Nipomo Lions Club: The New Tech Leos will be receiving an award on Tuesday, Jan. 30 from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at New Tech High School. Supervisor Lynn Compton will be presenting the award. The Leos have a “snack shop" at the school selling snacks, and have made several dollars that were presented to treasurer Ed Henderson to be deposited into their account, that is part of the Nipomo Lions account. Nipomo Lions will also be sponsors for the Nipomo Leos for the leadership camp taking place this spring. Congratulations to the Leos of Nipomo and to Lion Denise for all the hard work she has put into assisting the Leos. Her guidance has paid off in helping the club come as far as it has.
Reminder: Save the date Saturday, June 2, for the Lions Poker Tournament taking place at Blacklake Golf Resort. I will remind you again from time to time because this is a very popular event, and a fundraiser for the club. Other reminders are as follows: Student speaker contest will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Community Room. And final reminder: The upcoming golf tournament will take place on Saturday, April 7, so get your group together for the foursome, or several if you have them, so you can be ready to participate. This is one of the club's biggest fundraisers and attendance and participation is very necessary. All they do, and they do many things, comes back to this community so they need your participation. Mark your calendars, and participate. I will remind you again.
Town hall meeting at Trilogy: San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson held a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Trilogy with approximately 100 residents in attendance. He was accompanied by approximately 15 other staff representatives from the crime prevention program, volunteer patrol, posse and sheriffs advisory foundation, as well as assistant District Attorney Eric Dobrov. It was a most interesting and informative meeting. I will touch on some of the things discussed like a proposed Nipomo Sheriff's staff in Nipomo — they currently operate out of the Oceano substation. There was apparently a provision in the Trilogy development to provide a sheriff's substation on-site.
When Parkinson took office he pursued the provision and a compromise was reached for the county to build a sheriff's substation on Tefft Street with the developer of Trilogy paying to construct it. The meeting went on for some time and many items were discussed. If I continue it would fill the entire newspaper, if you would like a copy of the entire meeting please let me know and I will be happy to send it to you, (805) 343-0283. I must give credit where credit is due and let you all know that Don Dana attended the meeting and submitted many details to me, assisting me with getting this message out to all of you.
L.A. Gift Show will be taking place in February and as soon as we attend we will be letting you know what is new and hot on the market.
