Twenty six authors from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties will be selling and autographing their books at the Local Author Fair in Nipomo on Sunday, March 18.
The event, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Monarch Club at 1645 Trilogy Parkway in Nipomo.
Authors hailing from Lompoc to Nipomo to Paso Robles will be participating, and represent a wide range of genres including Mystery/Thriller, Memoir, History, Military, Children's, Young Adult, Fantasy, Romance, Poetry, and Short Story Collections.
Authors will be doing readings, and there will be a raffle for free books during this unique opportunity to meet talented authors on the Central Coast.
The fair is sponsored by four nonprofit organizations: Friends of the Nipomo Library, The Coastal Dunes Branch of the California Writers Club (Coastal Dunes CWC), Monarch Radio 107.9 FM, and the Chapter Two Book Club at Trilogy-Monarch Dunes. Each sponsor will have a table at the event to distribute information about their respective organizations.
The idea for the fair began a few years ago when Coastal Dunes CWC Founder and Trilogy resident Catherine Kitcho began discussions with the Friends of the Nipomo Library and the president of the Chapter Two Book Club at Trilogy, Judy Richards, to find a way to showcase the impressive writing talent in the surrounding area.
"We had several challenges," said Kitcho. "We needed to make it affordable for authors, we needed a large venue, and we wanted to provide some benefit for our local library. The resulting plan came together: host a Local Author Fair as a fundraising event for the Friends of the Nipomo Library. The Monarch Club graciously offered to provide the venue for a good cause in the local community."
Participating authors paid a table fee to the Friends of the Nipomo Library for the opportunity to sell their books at the fair. The four nonprofit sponsors are providing volunteers to help staff the event.
Monarch Radio has recorded pre-event radio interviews with the authors; those interviews are broadcast during their programs on 107.9 FM, 6 to 10 AM daily, and streamed online at their website, www.monarchradio.org.
Book tote bags will be given to the first 100 attendees, and light refreshments will be served.
