A Monterey Park woman was arrested by Santa Maria Police on suspicion of prostitution Wednesday as officers conducted inspections at several massage parlors throughout the city.

The Santa Maria Police Department’s Community Service Unit, with assistance from the City Code Enforcement and Santa Maria Fire Department, conducted the inspections, according to the city, in an effort to educate and bring the businesses into compliance with the city's new massage parlor ordinance.

Follow-up inspections are planned for all the businesses where violations were discovered, police reported.

Police did not release the identity of the woman, who was arrested after an inspection at the 7 Day Spa. After her arrest, she was cited and released, according to Santa Maria Police.
