The Valley Reads Book Club will discuss Sandra Cisneros' "House on Mango Street" from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 28 in the Dorothea Nelson Room at the Santa Maria Public Library.

"House on Mango Street" is a coming-of-age story about Esperanza Cordero, a young girl growing up in the Hispanic quarter of Chicago. Capturing her thoughts and emotions in poems and stories, Esperanza is able to rise above hopelessness in the midst of oppressive surroundings.

The book club, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Santa Maria Public Library, meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month to discuss a new book title. Complimentary snacks and coffee are served.

To join, visit the library, located at 421 S. McClelland St., and sign up with staff at Information Desk on the second floor.
