The Santa Maria Police Department is investigating a midmorning stabbing behind JCPenney that left one man injured.

According to police officials, at 10:04 a.m., an unidentified male was approached by two unknown Hispanic males in the back alley of JCPenney on the 1300 block of South Broadway. The unknown males proceeded to assault the victim, during which he sustained a single stab wound to the stomach.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he is currently being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. The suspects have not been identified.

Police have no evidence suggesting the incident was gang-related. Investigators are requesting anyone with information on the incident contact the Santa Maria Police Detective Bureau at 928-3781, ext. 2278.
