Police are searching for a suspect in connection with a residential burglary Thursday in the Vandenberg Village area.
At about 3 p.m., Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies responded to an alarm at a home in the 4100 block of Arcturus Avenue. While walking up the driveway, a deputy reportedly heard glass breaking. The deputy then saw a man, approximately 25 to 28 years old, jump over the backyard fence while carrying a black backpack and an ax/hammer-type tool.
Deputies and Lompoc Police Department officers surrounded the immediate area and searched for the suspect, who is still at large. County Fire Air Support and Lompoc Police K-9 units assisted.
An emergency notification was sent out to residents in the immediate area, advising them to stay indoors.
The suspect is described as an adult white male, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with light facial hair in the shape of a goatee. He was wearing blue jeans and a black, hooded sweatshirt.
