Santa Maria Police are investigating a shooting that sent a juvenile to the hospital in serious condition shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday.
An officer patrolling in the 800 block of South Pine Street at 10:13 p.m. was flagged down by residents who directed him to a juvenile who had just been shot and was lying on the sidewalk, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.
The shooter fled in a small sedan before the officer arrived.
Santa Maria Fire Department and AMR ambulance personnel were summoned to provide aid to the victim before he was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, police said.
No further information was released, but detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Police Department at 928-3781.
